Have a True Taste of South Africa this World Cocktail Day with Whitley Neill Gin’s Cosmic Egg

To celebrate World Cocktail Day, Sunday May 13th, expert bartender Josh Linfitt from Proppingupthebar has designed a South African themed Cosmic Egg cocktail, using baobab-infused Whitley Neill Gin.

Superfruit baobab grows in South Africa and has six times more vitamin C than an orange and more antioxidants than blueberries, its tree is known as ‘the tree of life’, which can hold up to 120,000 litres of water. The Cosmic Egg cocktail is inspired by an ancient African myth of the same name and includes baobab syrup.

Josh says: “We created our own baobab syrup for the Cosmic Egg and the wooden nest is a nod to the baobab tree. We’ve used a process which brings the drink forward into the molecular age. Served with baobab-cured biltong, this is a true taste of South Africa.”

Whitley Neill Gin’s Cosmic Egg

Ingredients

  • 20ml x Mainstay original premium cane spirit
  • 40ml x Whitley Neill Gin
  • 25ml x homemade baobab tonic syrup (baobab, cinchona bark, Madagascan vanilla, lime zest, cape gooseberries, lemon zest, orange zest)
  • 20ml fresh lime juice
  • 5 drops sweet orange bitters
  • White of one egg
  • Home made baobab and bee pollen cured biltong (optional)

 

Method

Shake all ingredients, except the biltong and caviar, together and strain into an egg shaped glass.

For a more enhanced South African experience serve in a wooden nest surrounded by dried baobab and cape gooseberries and with biltong cured meat as a food match.
